Alpha Hydroxy Acids are commonly found in your skincare products. And although the term 'acid' can sound mildly off-putting to say the least, AHA's are your skincare bestie.
AHA's are occur both naturally and synthetically. The seven different acids that fall under our beloved group of AHA's are;
AHA's are an exfoliant first, and all their other benefits stem off from this great ability to exfoliate.
Exfoliation is where the cells on the skin surface are shedded off. Not only does this remove dead skin cells (dead cells, oil and dirt clog your pores and when not completely cleaned can lead to pimples and dull complexion) but it also makes way for your new skin cells to generate.
Your natural skin cycle and processes slow down with ageing, but you can slow down ageing with skincare - especially AHA's. Not all AHAs have the same exfoliating power but the more contained within your product, the stronger the exfoliation will be.
