How to do a Lymphatic Face Massage - and it's Benefits

Lymphatic Face Massages have become extremely popular recently, with countless satisfying videos going viral, and the internet allowing more and more people to discover and share its benefits. But what exactly is it? And what are it's benefits?

The Lymphatic System

Your lymphatic system runs parallel to your circulatory system, circulating a fluid called 'lymph'. Through 'lymph nodes', the system drains the lymph - which contains white blood cells - and carries it back into your bloodstream. It also drains bodily waste, and this paired with the white blood cells helps prevent infection.

How to do a Lymphatic Massage

  • Apply an oil, cleanser or desired product on your face with washed hands to lubricate the skin.
  • Use light, slow, pushing movements and trace along the path of the lymphatic system. Remember you are massaging your skin and not your facial muscles.
  • It's important to start at the neck so your face has an easy pathway to drain to.
  1. Work in a downwards motion on the collar bones
  2. Work upwards on the neck towards the jaw line
  3. Work downwards on the area next to the ears
  4. Work across the jawline from the centre of the chin to the ear
  5. Work from the middle of the upper lip area to the ear
  6. Work from the bridge of the nose to the ear
  7. Work from under your eyes down your nose and to the ear
  8. Starting with your fingertips on the temples, use your whole hand to work out and down the side of the face.
  9. with fingertips, very lightly work downwards under the eyes
  10. with fingertips on the brows, work upwards and outwards toward the hair line
  11. With your palms on the temples, place your whole hand over the forehead and work downwards and outwards

Benefits of a Lymphatic Massage

The massage element essentially accelerates the lymphatic process by draining and recirculating your system. Used to treat lymphedema and other lymphatic related issues, it also fights swelling, puffiness, dull complexion, skin irritation and possible infection.

  1. Stimulates lymphatic flow of lymph through the body which moves toxins to the lymph nodes for removal
  2. Deep cleanse
  3. Promotes circulation which promotes collagen production
  4. Reduced puffiness
  5. Removes congestion
  6. Brightens skin complexion
  7. Reduces scar tissue
  8. Reduces anxiety and stress
  9. Fights irritation

Facial and body lymphatic massages can also aid:

  • Swelling after surgery such as wisdom teeth
  • Eczema
  • Acne
  • Digestive disorders

Lymphatic massages are a simple and relaxing addition to your skin care routine. You don't need to add another product, you just need to have a little bit of knowledge - and once you know how to do them, you can't help but want treat yourself with one everyday. Now all there is to do is enjoy your glowing skin!
