Benefits of Activated Charcoal

Benefits of Activated Charcoal

Charcoal is a man of many talents. Despite its simplicity and humble beginnings of a mere flame, charcoal is a powerhouse of goodness. From our skin to our tummies, Charcoal becomes a potent purification that works in perfect harmony with the human body.

Essentially, Charcoal traps the toxins and chemicals in your body and prevents their subsequent absorption.

How does it do its thang?

Activated charcoal is a fine deep black powder formed on burnt bone char, coconut shells, wood, peat, petroleum coke, coal, olive pits or sawdust.

It becomes 'activated' by heating it at really high temperatures which in turn changes its physical structure. Its pores reduce in size while the surface area increases, resulting in a substance more porous and absorbent than normal charcoal.

This new texture is negatively charged, attracting positively charged molecules like toxins, chemicals and gases. But since it's not absorbed by our bodies, it simply carries the nasties and comes out in a number two.

Do not confuse Activated charcoal with the charcoal on your barbie. That charcoal hasn't been at a high enough temperature to be activated and still contains toxins harmful to humans.

Skin

Charcoal is in now integrate into countless face masks, creams and skincare products. And it's for a fricking reason.
  • Due to its absorbent properties, when place onto the surface of the skin, it aids the removal of impurities.
  • This in turn reduces and prevents acne breakouts by removing the accumulation of sebum (skin oils) from your pores
  • It also controls the skins oiliness by absorbing excess oil and removing dead cells

Cleans Teeth

Charcoal is commonly used as a teeth whitener!

  • Its porous texture aids the removal of stains on your teeth leaving them pearly and sparkly.
  • It also absorbs the bacteria and germs in your mouth - allowing it to combat bad breath

Gut Health

Charcoal is a heaven send for your gut.

  • It entraps toxins and chemicals in the gut
  • It stops these toxins and chemicals being absorbed by your body and absorbs it itself
  • It attracts positively charged molecules like gas thats highly common yet irritable within the gut, and completes and deep but natural cleanse of your insides.

ART

Charcoal is beautiful expressive art medium.

  • It is ancient, having been used for thousands of years
  • It's extremely intuitive, allowing artists to express subtle changes in tone, light, line and shading.
  • It's natural so it's safe to inhale or throw away.
  • Inexpensive
  • Makes many different styles and techniques possible

EMERGENCY POISON TREATMENT

Due to its toxin absorption and the human body's inability to absorb the charcoal, it's the perfect emergency poison extractor.

  • Charcoal binds to a wide range of drugs and reduces their effects.
  • It has been used as an antidote since at least the 1800's
  • It may be used for prescription and non-prescriptive drug overdoses.
  • If 50-100 grams are taken within 5 minutes of the drug, studies show it reduces its effects by 74%.
